Travel Tip – The Lowdown on Swingers and Nudists
One subject that many of our customers ask about is the difference between swingers and nudists. We often get asked, “Who will be at the resort? Swingers or nudists?” This question always puts me in a bit of a quandary because I hate to pigeon hole or generalize about any group of people. On the other hand, knowledge is the key to enjoying a Dream Pleasure Tours vacation, so for those who need a little further explanation, let me give it to you.
The first thing to understand is that there are not two or three distinct sets of people. There is rather a scale with people along that scale having differing views on both nudity and sex. So let’s begin with naturists. Naturists see nudism as more of a cultural way of being as opposed to something you might do at an adults only resort once or twice a year. Naturists may carry nudism to the extreme, enjoying activities from volley ball, to golf and even to eating meals in the buff. Many naturists are quite comfortable having the whole family naked, and can spend an entire week at a resort without putting on a stitch of clothing. We only work with one resort where you might find the whole family naked and that is Caliente Tampa. But don’t worry, there are separate areas for adults only, and at night the children are not allowed in the bars and discos, and most of the guests are adult anyway.
Next to the naturists are those people that I call resort nudists. Resort nudists will take advantage of the clothing optional policy of a resort, such as Desire Riviera Maya or Hedonism II to sunbathe naked, swim in the pool naked, jump in the hot tub naked, and maybe play beach volley ball naked. However, when it comes time to dine, watch the evening’s entertainment or head to the disco, clothes go on.
Swingers may or may not be nudists, and nudists may or may not be swingers. Many naturists, the ones who see nudity as a cultural or social way of being, may not approve of swingers. Most swingers however are at least resort nudists, and will take off the clothes to jump in the pool or catch some rays. There is a further distinction, however. Many swingers, who are more than happy to take off their clothes for the pool or hot tub, would not consider engaging in any sort of sexual activity in open view of other resort guests. But we also find that some swingers are exhibitionists, and enjoy an atmosphere of sexual openness including an audience.
However, you cannot assume that all resort nudists are swingers. Many resort nudists just want to sun bathe naked, but have no desire or intention to engage in sex with any person other than their partner, and then only when the doors are shut. You should note that while most adult only resorts, whether they are clothing option or not, have official policies that sex acts should not take place in open view. A few resorts will provide specific areas, such as play rooms, where these rules do not apply. Regardless, it is typical to find at adult only resorts that a certain amount of sexual activity will occur in the hot tub or dark corners of the resort particularly after the sun goes down, and the resorts tend to turn a blind eye to these activities, as long as no one is complaining.
All of these distinctions for the most part do not make much difference, with the exception of one group of people. These are the naturists who are adamantly against open sexuality, and who will cause a fuss if they see any sort of sex going on. In the past this has caused some problems at some clothing optional resorts. Therefore, if it is your style to want to have sex in open areas where others can watch, you need to make sure you know the crowd that will be at the resort when you are there. You might consider joining in on one of our group tours. And if you are a naturist and the sight of someone else having sex is going to bother you, focus your vacation activities on resorts that are known for nudism, as opposed to going to resorts whose ads clearly focus on sexuality and eroticism.
