Today, June 4, 2013, we received a letter from the management of Original Resorts informing us that Desire Los Cabos has been sold. Here is the text from that letter:
We wish to inform you that, after weeks of negotiations, the Desire Resort & Spa Los Cabos owners have reached an agreement to sell the resort. Therefore this property will only operate as Desire Resort & Spa Los Cabos until June 13, 2013.
We understand the implications of giving such a short notice. As you can understand, these types of negotiations can take from a few weeks to many months. In our case, once we put the property up for sale, we were able to reach an agreement in a relatively short time. We thank you for all the support you have given to this project and also appreciate your understanding and cooperation to make this transition as smooth as possible.
We will be in close contact with you to address all of the situations that may result from this sudden decision and will take all the necessary steps to resolve any particular issues that might affect our mutual clients.
When we heard the news we weren’t surprised, as rumors have been floating around for a while that something was up. We even received this message from a customer who pulled the message from a social website:
"We just got back from...Desire Los Cabos. We had dinner on Monday night with …(someone) who told us that the resort was sold and the new owners had to May 31 to back out. Then on Tuesday all the posters of the theme nights, that were in the pool bars, came down and there was a 50% off all items in the gift shop. Look like there is writing on the wall!”
The good news is that Desire has agreed to take care of any person with a reservation at Desire Los Cabos. Accommodations for travelers will be made depending upon each customer’s circumstances, and whether or not that customer would like to transfer the reservation to Cancun, or receive a refund. Dream Pleasure Tours will be in touch with all customers booked into Desire Los Cabos over the next couple of days.
The bad news is that Desire Los Cabos is gone. We’re still scratching our heads over why this resort was not more popular. Some people say it’s because guests could not go nude on the beach, or because you couldn’t swim at the beach. Others say it was because of the resort next door, which some guests felt intruded into the Desire experience. Still others speculated it was because the resort was originally a Desire, then a Temptation, then back to a Desire, creating uncertainty about what the resort was going to be. Some said it was because senior management was on the other side of Mexico. Plus, it seems like just a short time ago, we were announcing that Desire Los Cabos was back.
Whatever the reason, we’re really sorry to see this resort go. For travelers on the west coast, Desire Los Cabos was ideal. You could eat breakfast in Los Angeles and be at the resort in time for lunch. The resort boasted a Southern California-type climate with low humidity, little rain, no hurricanes and balmy evenings. We always found the accommodations upscale, the food excellent and the service at the level of quality you would expect from Desire.
Our guests who vacationed at Desire Los Cabos reported having a great time. We have this report from Jon and Dana:
Dear Staff and Management at Desire Los Cabos,
We had an absolutely fantastic time at the resort, and each time is gets better. This was hands down the best experience of any resort we have visited, anywhere. The staff is incredibly friendly, accommodating and, in light of the hard work expected of them, they shine. I wish I had the names of the 10 staff members we both agree were 110% above any other hospitality workers. Next visit we will write down their names and send our list of who shines there, but all in all they all make your visit a fabulous experience and we were very sad to leave. Already we are planning our next trip to Cabo Desire
Every attention to detail was perfect. Rooms cleaned perfectly and quickly, towels available, and every level of service beyond expectation. Food was also better than the last time and suppers were amazing. For the price and quality, you have a winning resort.
Thanks for everything and keep up the GREAT WORK there!
One of our regular groups is Desirous Party. David and Caitlyn took their group to Desire Los Cabos and their report on the resort is stellar. You can read their entire report at Report on Desirous Party Trip to Los Cabos.
But sadly, all good things must come to an end, and so it seems has Desire Los Cabos. Now all that’s left are the memories. And those will last a lifetime.
