Everyone wants to save money, and everyone wants to have a great time with their lover. So here are my top 5 everyday household items that can be repurposed for love making... (yes, we believe in being green and sustainable;))
1. Clothespins - pretty obvious, right? Clothespins, the kind you buy in any variety store, the wooden kind, make great nipple clamps. Just the right amount of tension so as not to be painful. Just the tingle you might need girls to enhance the experience. Flick the end of the clothespin back and forth for extra excitement. The relief when the clothespin is removed is a rush too.
2. Night Mask – you know the kind you take traveling so that the bright light does not hit your eyes first thing in the am, or so that you can sleep on the plane? Great for a blindfold that is foolproof. Use it to play: “Find the Cherry” – see #3
3. Cherries and Whipped Cream – can be used for a number of fun things! I like to play “Find the Cherry” use either a marischino cherry or a chocolate covered cherry for extra yummyness. Hide the cherry somewhere on your body and make a trail to it with whipped cream. Your blindfolded partner licks his way along the creamy path to the sweet red reward at the end. No peeking! Of course, you can tell them if they are getting hotter or colder in their pursuits.
4. Silk Rope – silk rope feels good on the skin and does not create rope burns. Pick up a book on shibari – ancient Japanese art of rope tying for ideas, or just get creative with your partner and see how many different ways you can tie them up. Remember to always leave some give so as to keep circulation going and use a safe word*. (More is NOT a safe word.) Start simply if you are a novice, just tie hands together over the head, or tie yourself to the bedpost. Then you can move on to more exotic things like tying up breasts and hog tying. Remember to keep it beautiful, criss crossing the rope into elegant designs.
Sidebar on Shibari: In Japanese, “Shibari” simply means “to tie”. The contemporary meaning of Shibari describes an ancient Japanese artistic form of rope bondage.
The origin of Shibari comes from Hojo-jutsu, the martial art of restraining captives. In Japan from 1400 to 1700, the honor of ancient Samurai warriors required them to treat their prisoners well. So, they used different techniques to tie their prisoners, showing the honor and status of their captured prisoner.
In the late 1800′s and early 1900′s a new form of erotic Hojo-justu evolved, called Kinbaku, the art of erotic bondage. Today, particularly in the west, the art of erotic bondage is typically called Shibari, which is an art of erotic spirituality, not a martial art.
Shibari style rigging creates geometric patterns and shapes with rope that contrast beautifully with the human body’s natural curves. The ropes and their texture provide contrast to smooth skin and curves. In Shibari, the model is the canvas, the rope is the paint and brush, and the rigger is the rope artist.
5. Latex Gloves - covered in your favorite massage lotion, try different sensations for a traditional massage, as your hands glide over skin effortlessly and the feeling of the glove creates a new arousal. Also try the gloves with your favorite lube, great for sensual massage. And for the more adventurous, try inserting a gloved hand that slides easily into tight places - you would be amazed at the sensation and the places you will go!
6. Pizza Paddle – you will never look at your spatula drawer the same again! Use a wooden or bamboo spatula or better yet pizza paddle to spank that derriere. There is an art as to the position of the paddle to the curve of the backside and how hard a pressure and speed of the strokes. Discuss this and practice with a few strokes with your partner before you begin a first session. Remember to start off lightly and use a safe word* and always follow up with loving touches and massages. Little kisses before, during, and after make it all better too (gives a whole new meaning to: "kiss my ass!")
Sidebar on Spanking: Spanking as a fetish all its own, and has a psychophysiological explanation to why this activity takes on a sexual significance for its fans. When it comes to pain our bodies naturally release endorphins to help us cope with the sensation. Spanking can bring blood flow to the pelvic floor. Both of these things mimic what happens during sexual arousal in our bodies anyway.
Spanking took on a negative connotation with the rise of feminism. Spanking had often been publicized in media as a way to punish feisty women - or keep them in line - or other things that had domestic violence sounding overtones attached to them. Why do men have the right to punish grown women in the same way as naughty children? However, it took brave people to be honest about their sexual preferences to speak up and say "Hey! I can be respected AND spanked if I want to be!"
7. Wine Bottle Drip Stop - you know those padded rings that fit around the neck of the wine bottle to stop the drips? They are usually made of metal or plastic with a soft flannel padding on the inside. Depending on the size of the stop, can be used as a c-ring or an ego booster when it does not fit around the diameter! Either way, it makes a great starting point for conversation on how tight, how large, and how effective it is at stopping.... or starting.... drips!
