Our Houseboat Tour arrived mid day on a Wednesday in Las Vegas. My wife and I were very excited and yes, a little hesitant about our first lifestyle vacation. The travel agent had recommended the Get-A-Way Group Houseboat Tours because they've been doing these tours for over thirty years on Lake Mead just east of Las Vegas. We were told that this was a fun-loving, laid back group of couples who started vacationing on these houseboats back in the early eighties. Now it has grown to have more than 2,100 couples come together to enjoy the benefits of this houseboat vacation experience.
It seems the group of couples is always changing with a large contingent of repeat, about 30%. Couples come back to meet old friends from all over the world or bring new ones and like us, all want to do something exciting and different. We were surprised at the ages of our group. I'm not one that would guess at the ages nor would I ask but, we were told the oldest person on our tour was seventy and the youngest was twenty-nine. Everything from an executive to a political write and train engineer. The majority of people were around our ages (early forties). As for the experience of the group, it included everyone from newbie's or nudists to couples with two or three years of experience in the lifestyle and more.
Anyway, we got to our hotel after enjoying the strip in Las Vegas and having lunch there. At three -thirty we were in our room and decided to take a nap so that we would be ready for the early Arrival Party in the hotel that evening. It was great to meet fellow passengers while having a few drinks and it was very helpful meeting everyone beforehand. The next day my wife and I had a day of leisure and bought food for the trip on the lake. That evening (Thursday) another Meet N Greet was held in the hotel. Boy, what a turnout! A lot of fun was had by all! I think everybody won a prize or two and I laughed until I couldn't laugh anymore. It was a fun group! The trip had barely started and already everyone made us feel very comfortable. This vacation was going to be so much fun!
Friday at six a.m., we were up and off to start our adventure. The marina which is about forty-five minutes away is a wonderful drive through the beautiful Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Arriving at the marina, we quickly loaded our gear onto the boats. Our Captain directed us to our bedroom and off we sailed to a beautiful, secluded cove. Having a party along the way as we headed to where we moored the boats at the shore, we ate hot dogs, sunbathed and toasted good cheer. Finally, the last boat was moored - "Let the party begin!" We decided to go for a swim. An hour later, we were off to go wine tasting. There were evening dances and many different things to do throughout the day or you could do nothing but float on the lake with a raft and take in some sun.
We had a wonderful time meeting new friends on this beautiful lake. It was non-stop fun what with the luxury houseboats, the parties, the way the Captains took care of us, the food, the laughs and all for less than we paid on any of our past vacations.
