We have just returned back from a trip to Temptation Resort and Spa Los Cabos. It’s taken me a few days to put pen to paper (or fingers to computer) as this was one of those trips that stands out in my mind with the words “it couldn’t get much better.” This trip was memorable not only because it was my first trip to Temptation Los Cabos, but also my first trip to Los Cabos itself.
Living in Los Angeles, Los Cabos is a great destination. A two hour flight and you’re there. Los Cabos is well served by a number of airlines, including Alaska Airlines. It’s about a half hour drive from the airport, and unlike Desire Cancun, the resort is not in the middle of nowhere (more about that later too).
Check-in was a breeze as we were greeted by friendly staff with ice cold glasses of champagne. An extremely helpful bellman led us to the room and gave us the lay of the land. The resort is built in a U shape with the opening of the U facing the beach and the Pacific Ocean right where it meets the Sea of Cortez, and each side of the U housing the rooms. All of the rooms face the inner part of the U and have a view of the gardens or pool area with large balconies set with tables and chairs. The room itself was nicely decorated, and well appointed. The mini-fridge contained bottled water, beer and Coke and was stocked daily.
Once checked in, it was time to explore the property. The inside section of the U houses tropical and desert landscaping, a fabulous outdoor bar and entertainment area, large pool, a swim up pool bar, snack service area, and right close to the beach the gym, spa and gigantic hot tub. At the base of the U is registration, the gift shop, two restaurants, and the disco. The pool is surrounded by the famous Desire outdoor canopy beds which are perfect for laying out by the pool with your partner without getting scorched by the sun or those funny marks on your skin left by most pool-side furniture.
The beach at Desire Los Cabos is a wide sandy strip that runs for miles. It’s a great place for those who like to take a walk in the morning, or in the evening. Unfortunately right in front of the resort there are some strong rip tides so swimming is not recommended, but a few minutes’ walk down the beach there are some great places to swim.
Temptation Los Cabos is European style which mean woman go topless and the tiniest string bikini is acceptable but once you cross the property line onto the beach you have to put on regular swim wear.
Unlike many resorts I have visited, the maintenance at Temptation Los Cabos is impeccable. Living in Los Angeles near the beach I know how damaging salt air and sunshine can be to anything that stays outside. Outdoor areas were clean, landscaping very well maintained, and furnishings also clean and well maintained and not faded or weather worn.
We had arrived late in the day and as dusk fell the resort became illuminated with some of the best resort wide mood lighting I have seen. Unique light fixtures accented by hundreds of small oil burning lamps set the mood for romance. Los Cabos boasts dry desert air, similar to Los Angeles but a little warmer. The evening was warm, not humid, with a slight breeze off the ocean and no bugs.
We quickly settled in at the bar and winding down after fighting crowds on the LA freeways and at LAX I sipped an excellent martini while enjoying the ambience of a great resort. My first impressions of this resort was right on track as the rest of our stay was fabulous.
Temptation Resort and Spa is a resort that is not as popular as its sister resorts Temptation Cancun and Desire Riviera Maya, but it rivals both in its weather and ambience. Next time you're thinking of a vacation, consider Temptation Los Cabos.
For those of you looking for the action of Los Cabos remember that Temptation Los Cabos is about a 30 minute cab ride from downtown Los Cabos, so if you want to party in all of those Cabo clubs, you will be looking at spending a lot of money on cabfare. The resort does have its own disco on site, but the disco may not be very busy if there are not many people at the resort when you are there.
