In a statement released on their blog, The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) stated: AANR has an 80 year history of standing for social nudism as a philosophy of living that is healthy, positive and family friendly. We also believe we are worthy of inclusion at the table of mainstream society. That, however, is a work in progress. We recognize the bias regarding social nudism in this country and have worked carefully to change perceptions. While columns in this and other nudist publications routinely discuss nudism as if it were an everyday practice those conversations are the “inside baseball” of nudists talking to each other. The greatest part of the American public know little or have never heard of social nudism. When awareness does exist it is clouded with misperceptions of what we do and how we behave with some still believing us cloistered in “colonies.” A significant part of our (AANR) charge is to “introduce” social nudism to an American public that is (still) largely unaware of our existence.
It has, in fact, been a long road from 1930 and the American Sunbathing Association (former name of AANR). Those who brought social nudism to America from Germany selected the strategy of “bathing in the sun’s rays” with the entire body as plausible reason for societal tolerance (if not acceptance). The approach was critical, for conservative as American society is now, in the 1930s we were immersed in a post-Victorian puritanical hysteria…the echoes of which are still with us. Any suggestion nudism was accompanied by even a hint of sensuality (it actually feels good to be or live nude) let alone any sexual overtones would have led to an outlawing of the practice if not a few lynchings to boot.
Nudists today feel secure in the comfort of their nudist resort or club or on one of the (very few) public nude beaches but police raids on private nudist facilities were common until the 1950s. AANR has the experience and understanding of history to recognize the progress we have made in the courts and with some legislators is neither complete nor “carved in stone.” To presume we are free to demonstrate nudism is an accepted way of life with attendant sensual and sexual components suggests a level of understanding among the American public we believe is not now present.
We have a clear view of the goal…acceptance of social nudism as a mainstream choice among ways to live in this country. This vision includes the ability to be nude in your home and on your property..even within view of others. It includes the ability to drive in your car nude, take your family to a nude beach or even to a grocery store nude. While everyone may have a different idea of what the future vision of nudism in America looks like we certainly want the “tent” to be large enough to include the full spectrum of living and recreating nude. The question of the strategy we use to get there is often the debate. Some accuse us of not moving fast enough, or of not recognizing that sensuality or sexuality are a part of nudism. Believe me, we recognize those realities. When and how we choose to overtly advocate for these elements to be accepted today by a public still largely unaware or understanding of our cause calls for intentionality and thoughtfulness.
We at AANR have the long view. Do we need to go faster, place ads in the New York Times, sponsor body painting contests or engage in any of the many tactics to heighten awareness and acceptance of social nudism in America? Moving forward to increase societal acceptance while minimizing the risk to hard fought gains is a delicate and important part of our work. Healthy debate regarding how and how quickly we get there is an important part of the democratic process and we invite more robust discussion on this very topic. At least they don't have to do laundry, began an article in TheWeek.com: A Northern California nudist camp is facing off against rangers who say they are stealing water during the devastating drought that has hit the Golden State. Rangers from the Midpeninsula Open Space District paid a visit to the Lupin Lodge near Los Gatos and dismantled a hose that went to the resort from a nearby waterfall. The owners of the nudist lodge, Glyn and Lori Kay Stout, argue that they have grandfathered-in rights to use the waterfall, and need the water to fill their 87,000-gallon tank that's on standby in case of fire. The pair said they also have to be able to fill up their pool that is used for skinny dipping.
(from an article in TheWeek.com)
Lupin Lodge is home to 50 full-time residents living in cabins and trailers across 110 acres. Although no arrests were made or citations issued on Thursday, one 70-year-old resident said he went on a hike and was told by rangers he was going to get a trespassing citation. "They said, 'You can't be here. You're on our property,'" Errol Strider told the San Jose Mercury News. "I was wearing tennis shoes and my little fanny pack. I discreetly turned my fanny pack to a front pack where it stayed for the rest of the conversation."
And, for those who find themselves accidentally naked at the pool, there is a site for you!
At the site, http://www.experienceproject.com/ people can anonymously share life experiences, including their nudist experiences. Kind of funny!

The Shoes Only Travel Pleasure Castle trip presented by Dream Pleasure Tours has made the mainstream media due to their comparison with the popular TV series Downton Abby.
Editor's Note: Book before September 30 for a Complimentary Afternoon Tea for Two - click here for all discounts and extras.
The New Your Daily News recently reported, in the article: Erotic travel firm books castle for 'Downton Abbey'-themed swingers party, that This July 2015 5-day party is being billed as ''Downton Abbey’, only sexier.’ Editor's Note: Notice the different tone in the European news coverage and the American news coverage - it clearly shows how uptight Americans tend to be of anything sexy! The article continues...
What would the Crawleys think? A “Downton Abbey”-style swingers party will be held at a British castle hotel by an American erotic travel company. ShoesOnly.com has hired the listed manor house and grounds at Bovey Castle, on Dartmoor in Devon, for the decadent five-day sex fest next July.
The raunchy “Pleasure Castle” event is being billed as “’Downton Abbey’, only sexier.” It will feature naked pool parties, teasing cabaret and a sexy renaissance fair. Some 100 well-heeled couples from across the globe are expected to pay up to $8,000 for the mini-break, which begins July 5.
“We have arranged a private takeover of one of England's most spectacular and luxurious Castle Estates. Think a sexy and erotic Downton Abbey," the company's website brags. “Situated on 275 plush English green acres, our castle offers a dazzling array of pampering pleasures and exciting activities,” it adds.
But the plans have not been welcomed by the hotel's leisure club members. "I hope this isn't a new direction for the hotel owners,” one visitor told the Exeter Express & Echo. “I, for one, will be concerned about getting in the pool again afterwards.”
The mansion was built in 1907. After being taken over by the Great Western Railway in 1930, it became a hotel. Bought in June by the Rigby Group, it is currently undergoing a $3 million renovation and will become the flagship resort in the Eden Hotel Collection. “The Eden Hotel Collection confirms that a booking has been made by a North American tour company for exclusive use of Bovey Castle next summer,” a spokesman said. “As with any reservation contract we enter into with a guest, we are unable to discuss confidential details of their booking.”
Carnival Films, which produces Downton Abbey, has not commented on the event. (Editor's Note: Why would they? It is just good free publicity for them!)
The Plymouth Herald's reporting of the event: A SWINGERS club is throwing a five-day party - at one of Devon's plushest hotels. Bovey Castle, on Dartmoor, will be hosting naked pool parties for the erotic travel club in July next year.
The venue, in North Bovey, is to close its grounds while American company shoesonly.com throws the party. Around 100 guests will create 'Pleasure Castle' at the event, and the company has booked the entire hotel and its 275 acres of grounds for the shindig. The Pleasure Castle is described as being like a 'Downton Abbey' experience, only sexier.
Swinging guests booking before September 30 will be offered a complimentary cream tea.
The luxury resort was previously owned by entrepreneur Peter de Savary and is a well-known hideaway for VIPs and celebrities. The Shoes Only team visited the hotel earlier this year to discuss the plans to transform ‘fantasy into reality’. A spokesman for the travel firm said: “Our criteria in selecting venues is to find beautiful 5-star properties around the world which offer our members, who are all serious travellers, the opportunity to explore and visit wonderful and interesting places in a private setting.”
The itinerary includes a sexy renaissance fair in the hotel grounds with erotic costumes, live erotic dance shows, naked pool parties and foam parties.
The company organises holidays for ‘sexy travellers’ looking to spend time with like minded people.
Other holidays next year include Acapulco Ambrosia in Mexico and Sexy under the Tuscan Sun villa holiday in Italy. (Editor's Note: Look for them on Dream Pleasure Tours!) The spokesman said: “They are quite popular and are no different then any other niche market group designed to allow like-minded people to share a vacation experience together.” He said that group members are no different to any other that might visit the castle. He said: “They are highly educated professionals from Europe and North America on holiday to enjoy the natural beauty of South West England. While visiting and touring, our group will bring a positive and significant economic impact to the area. (Editor's Note: it is always OK if it brings revenue! Yes, being sarchastic)
“Additionally, the venue with its 275 acres is totally private and closed to any outside visitors during our group’s stay.”
A team from the holiday firm undertook a four-day visit to the hotel earlier this summer and say they found the ‘perfect castle estate’. The company newsletter states: “Our visit allowed us to meet all the staff and develop a plan to utilise all of their very extensive facilities, giving our members a constantly changing and evolving experience to excite the senses. "So whether by day or night you will be able to be as busy as you like, hopping from one event to another, or just chill in sun au natural by day relaxing and preparing for the evening ahead.”
The mansion was built in 1907 to designs by Detmar Blow, for the second Viscount Hambleden. By 1930 it had become a hotel operated by the Great Western Railway, known as the Manor House Hotel.
In 1948 it was taken over by the British Transport Commission. It was expanded under new ownership in the 1990s, then purchased and refurbished by the entrepreneur Peter de Savary in 2003 and renamed 'Bovey Castle'.
Editor's note: see the difference in reporting in the two publications? American writer considers it raunchy, while the European writer included the quote: “They are quite popular and are no different then any other niche market group designed to allow like-minded people to share a vacation experience together.” We like minded people still have a long way to go! Let's talk about it in the dungeon at the Pleasure Castle, why don't we? Get your complementary extras by booking by Sept 30, 2014.

An episode of Good Morning America profiled Arianne and Nate Cohen of Portland, Oregon—a married couple that sleeps in separate rooms. Now, chances are, your first reaction to that scenario is something along the lines of, “well, their marriage is doomed.” But actually, experts say that’s not the case at all—and that the arrangement is way more common than you think.
“I see lots of clients who sleep in separate bedrooms and have better marriages as a result,” confirms Susan Heitler, PhD, a clinical psychologist in Denver, Colorado, author of The Power of Two: Secrets of a Strong and Loving Marriage and founder of the marriage skills website poweroftwomarriage.com. In Arianne and Nate’s case, she likes to read at night while he likes to play guitar, so they use their alone time for their hobbies. The couple said they sleep better and they’ve gotten closer. Here’s why the separate beds thing is more beneficial than you’d think—and how to determine if it could work for you. The first order of business is to understand the primary draw of sleeping apart. The main reason couples do it—and why Heitler says it’s okay—is if they have completely different sleep habits, and those differences are preventing them from getting a good night’s sleep.
Maybe one person snores, for instance, which keeps the other person awake, or maybe one has restless leg syndrome, where they kick in the middle of the night. It could even be a seemingly small thing, like one person prefers to sleep with the hallway light on, whereas the other requires total darkness. Whatever the case may be, the bigger issue is that sleep disturbances due to differences like this can create big relationship problems. “The danger with not sleeping well is that couples often start to resent each other,” Heitler explains. “One partner will start to see the other as a physical manifestation of the fact that they can’t sleep at night, and grow bitter and angry toward them. What’s more, duos often become more irritable and fight over silly things.” When people are well rested, she says, they’re better able to solve problems and approach life with an even temper. And both of these qualities can help improve your relationship.
But what about separation anxiety? Or FOMO? Isn’t it bad to not have the opportunity to cuddle and have sex at night? The answer, in short, is no. Think about it: Unless you’re declaring your love for each other in your sleep, all of the good stuff that you associate with sharing a bed—the cuddling, the pillow talk—happens right before you go to sleep and right when you wake up. Heitler’s solution: Develop a morning and nighttime routine so that you can still work those closeness hours in without sacrificing quality sleep. That is, bookend your cuddle time around your actual sleep time. “I know couples who cuddle together in a shared bed at night, or read, or have sex—and then, right when it’s time to go to sleep, they separate, and one goes into the guest room. In the morning, they wake up at the same time, and get back into the same bed to cuddle or be intimate for a bit before going about their days,” Heitler explains. She describes another couple who cuddles on the couch every night before bed, and then splits into their separate bedrooms.
Of course, there are lots of ways to arrange a perfect situation—you and your significant other just need to find the one that works best for both of you. And the best part? Doing so is actually a strong indicator of relationship success. “Couples who are able to figure out a creative solution to their sleeping issues are better off overall,” Heitler says. “That’s because they clearly understand how to voice their concerns and solve them in a realistic and loving way, which is an indicator of a great, equal, and cooperative marriage.” Win-win!
The Separation Exception As with most things in life, there is one caveat. Sleeping separately is only beneficial if it’s really about your sleep quality—not something more. “If you’re splitting up at night because you’re fighting, or because you’re having sex issues, then it’s going to do more harm than good,” says Heitler. In other words, sleeping apart can be great if you’re doing it for the right reasons. But if you’re using it to push a bigger martial issue under the rug, then it will only be a temporary fix and may lead to a bigger blowout down the line. Editor's note: Actor Milton Berle kept separate bedrooms for all of his long term marriages. In an LA TImes interview in 1996, he stated: "I've always had my own private bedroom all my life. It's very healthy that way, I think, for both sides, for the man and the woman. I like to cuddle. I like to have love and I have sex and all that, but there are times I believe that it's a better state of mind to have separate bedrooms." In a People Magazine 1982 edition, (while married to second wife Ruth Cosgrove,) he also said: "What makes our home life successful is that she has her way of living and I have mine. We have separate bedrooms, and if she wants to keep the light on to read or open the windows wide, she can. There's no stress at home. We don't fight. We have little disputes about minor things, and we both give in. I don't think a woman should change or a man should change after the wedding ring, and each should be himself or herself. So she has what she wants, and I do too. But in all our years together I've never seen Ruth with cold cream on her face. She's always combed and her face refreshed before we really say good morning. Most of the time I don't see Ruth until she's dressed. I think it all helps keep me feeling young." This picture is Milton with third wife Lorna Adams, whom he married after Ruth passed in 1989, and was married to until he passed in 2002.
