Many of you know that the financial backers of Yolo Cruises, the first entire ship takeover lifestyle/swingers cruise, have run themselves afoul of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The purpose of this article is to inform our readers who may have been booked on the Yolo Cruise that was supposed to sail in October, 2010 of recent developments. It looks like the SEC problems have scuttled the ship. You can find out more information on the allegations against the backers of the Yolo Cruise by clicking on the following link – SEC Complaint. Maybe like us you're wondering if Yolo Cruises is still in business.
Dream Pleasure Tours was marketing the 2010 Yolo Cruise for a very short period of time, but we made the decision, for a variety of reasons, to stop marketing that cruise just a few weeks after the cruise was announced. We won’t go into all of the details as to why we made that decision, but at the time we believed it was for sound business reasons. When we stopped marketing the Yolo Cruise, we had not taken a single booking.
However, in the last few days we have had a number of calls from people who are on our email list, or who found us on the Internet, wanting to know what is going on with Yolo. Apparently many people have booked on the Yolo Cruise that was supposed to sail in October, either with other agencies or directly with Yolo Cruises.
Unfortunately, the news is not good. The Yolo Cruises website no longer shows a booking link for anyone to book this cruise, but there is no announcement or update with regards to the sailing. Further, the Yolo Cruises phone numbers appear to have been disconnected. Apparently emails are not being answered either. We have independent confirmation from Carnival Cruise Lines that the Yolo Cruise will not sail. If you have already booked on the Yolo Cruise, we suggest you contact your credit card company to determine what options you might have to get your money refunded.
We are very sorry to watch this unfolding story. The Yolo Cruise was an industry defining event. Gay and lesbian communities have bucked prejudices and discrimination such that gay and lesbian events are held frequently and supported by cities, states and even the federal government. We saw the Yolo Cruise as making some of the first inroads by swingers, lifestylers and sexually open minded people into mainstream acceptability. Now, it appears as if Yolo Cruises, and their trendsetting cruise, may be no more. Further, the very fact that Yolo Cruises is now involved in a financial scandal could cause negative ramifications for other companies trying to stage large scale lifestyle and swingers events.
So what in the end will happen with Yolo Cruises? We don’t know. Right now everything is speculation. But if it is the end for Yolo Cruises, it is really too bad it ended this way.
