Ever since we announced a few months ago that Hedonism II had been sold, we’ve been bombarded with emails and phone calls from customers asking, “What’s happening at the resort?” We’re down at the resort right now with our Cirque Erotique group, and we can sum up what’s happening with one word – LOTS!
We first noticed the changes right after checking in. Already, significant improvements have been made in the landscaping. Hedonism is a large property covering 22 acres, and all the grounds cannot be done at once, but what we’ve seen so far is an excellent indication that changes are underway.
Kevin Levee, general manager and now one of the owners of the resort, said that his focus since the ownership change has been on basic maintenance issues. With 280 rooms, along with restaurants, swimming pools and entertainment areas, there is a lot to take care of. Kevin said that previous issues with air conditioning and hot water have been top priority, and reported problems have significantly dropped over the past few months. Kevin also mentioned that previously reported shortages of supplies, under the new ownership, are simply no more.
While there is a lot being planned, Kevin did say the ownership team is working with designers to lay out the basic design for remodeled rooms. Once a new room design is chosen, the resort will begin remodeling rooms in small blocks, so as to keep disruption to guests to a minimum.
We also noticed a change in the food. The new chef, Anthony Miller, is definitely making his mark in the kitchen. The food seems fresher and more creative (we really liked the antipasti trays set out on the lunch buffet), with more options. Anthony is a classically trained chef and was schooled in Texas, where he graduated from culinary school and served as chef at the famed Adolphus Hotel Dallas, one of the finest hotels in America. He also worked at Grand Lido Braco, one of SuperClub’s finest properties prior to its sale. Anthony’s goal is to bring the food service at Hedonism to what he calls ‘five star” quality.
The resort used to bring in pastries from offsite, but with the change in ownership, the resort has now built its own pastry kitchen and makes everything on-site. Shirley Van Horne, formerly of Breezes Resorts, is the new pastry chef.
One new dining feature is the Wine Cellar. Now if you want something more than the house wines, you can purchase bottles from the wine list. The list includes selections from Chile, Washington State, California, New Zealand, Italy and probably a country or two we missed. Jeffrey, the food and beverage manager, tells us he intends to expand the wine bar area, increase the wine selections and put in a new wine storage facility.
We also learned that within the next few weeks the resort will begin changing out much of its outdoor furniture. We heard that 400 new chaise lounges have been ordered, and delivery is expected within weeks. Plus we saw painters all over the place slapping on new coats of paint, and giving the building exteriors a fresh look.
Of course, not everything is changing. Nick, the entertainment director, and the incomparable Winston are still putting on an unbelievable show. (Dream Pleasure Tours brought down some extra special entertainment for Cirque Erotique, but we’ll tell you all about that in another article). We sometimes forget that included in the price of a visit to Hedonism II is your entertainment, and we’re talking about high-energy, foot-stomping, hand-clapping entertainment that rivals anything you’d see in a Las Vegas show lounge. Actually, it’s even better than Vegas because if you wear what some of our customers wear, and do what some of our customers do, in Vegas, they’d promptly escort you to the front door!
Operating a resort is no easy task. A resort is a hotel, restaurant, bar, show lounge, spa, gym, nightclub and more, all rolled into one. The previous owners of Hedonism II had many such resorts to manage, including resorts in many different countries. It’s easy to understand why Hedonism II may have not gotten all the attention it deserved. One of the primary owners, Harry Lange, will be focusing all of his attention on Hedonism II. He brings with him a team with significant experience in resort management, and expertise in adult travel for open-minded people. It is very obvious that they are dedicated to significantly improving the resort experience, as evidenced by the fact that their plans for improvements are actively being put into effect.
Kevin says, “Hedo built its reputation as an adult-only vacation experience for open-minded, fun-loving people. It was the place to party, and it still is.” While other resorts become ghost towns after 10:00pm, with everyone heading back to their rooms to watch TV or sleep, the action at Hedonism is just getting going. Whether it’s the piano bar, the disco, or a late night dip in the nude pool, Hedo really is a place where you can have the experience of a lifetime.
Kevin wants us to remind visitors to our website that Hedonism II is not just for swingers or even nudists. All fun-loving adults, couples and singles, are welcome to enjoy this very unique resort experience.
If you’ve never been to Hedonism II, it’s definitely time for a Hedo vacation. If you vacationed at Hedonism II in the past and made the decision not to go again, we’re hoping we can convince you to change your mind. We’re sure the changes that have been made so far, and those to come, will give you a whole new, and significantly improved Hedonism II experience.
