We are one of the largest resellers of travel to Desire Resorts, Hedonism II and other lifestyle and swinger friendly resorts and cruises, plus we do many group tours each year. We stake our business on integrity. We don’t engage in many marketing practices that other companies do, that we think are unethical, and which in some cases are even illegal. But it seems that that there is not much honor in business these days, and that’s too bad. The worst part is, these offensive marketing practices hurt you, the consumer.
What are we talking about? One example is pricing. Increasingly we are told by customer’s they have found a website that sells Desire, or Hedonism at a rate significantly less than ours. We pride ourselves on having very competitive rates, and when we here this news, we of course, have to investigate. This is what we often find—the website quotes a lower price, but in small print you will read “not including taxes or services fees.” Then when you go to check out, guess what? The shopping cart adds a whole bunch of taxes and services fees to the point where you end up paying as much, or even more, as if you booked with Dream Pleasure Tours. Our resort prices are all-in. There are no extra taxes or services charges to add, because the resort itself prices their rooms that way. Everything is included. This is nothing more than a deceptive practice to fool unwary buyers. Be warned. And if you find these sites, we’d really like you to let us know so we can report them to the various resorts.
Another bad marketing practice is what is called cyber squatting. Cybersquatting (also known as domain squatting), according to the United States federal law known as the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, is registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name with bad faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. It’s illegal, and it’s simply wrong. As an example, the people who put on those great swingers and lifestyle cruises on the big ships are Couple Cruise. They’re website is couplescruise.com. Now it would not be legal, nor would it be ethical, it I were to register couplescruises.com (basically just adding the letter “s”) and then to build a website that looked like theirs, to market cruises.
It’s hard to get rid of those companies and people who engage in these types of deceptive marketing practices, just like it’s hard to get rid of those junk emails from Nigeria with an offer to send you millions of dollars if you’ll just send them some money first. The best defense is knowledge. Beware of who you deal with when you are booking online. Is the website the real deal? Or is it a rip-off? Also, if you book through a company that engages in unethical and illegal marketing practices, how to you think their employees will handle your problems and issues. With honesty and integrity? Or will they try to cheat you too?
At Dream Pleasure Tours we have become one of the leading companies in the swinger and lifestyle travel business. We have done it in a fairly short period of time, and we’ve done it by being innovative and creative in this market sector, and by providing a superior customer experience. But we will not engage in cyber squatting or deceptive pricing to get business. We simply don’t have to.
